This past weekend, I had a session with a family that I met through Inspiration through Art. I instantly fell in love with this family. They are so down to earth, their kids are awesome and their little hero is absolutely adorable and a ball of energy!

My littlest hero's story: "Jackson was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart in utero. He was born at U of M Mott Hospital in Ann Arbor, MI on October 30, 2007. His first open heart surgery was when he was 6 days old. After surgery, his oxygen levels wouldn't stay where the doctors wanted them, so they put him on ECMO. He was on ECMO for 48 hours to allow his heart time to rest and heal. We were discharged from the hospital 3 weeks later, and we were able to come home to Jackson's 2 older brothers. Jackson has also had 2 other open heart surgeries, the most recent was August 2010. We had an extended stay d/t him developing chylous effusions, and he was running around the hospital until we were able to go home. Today, Jackson is a vibrant, energetic almost 4 year old boy. Since his last surgery, we can tell that his endurance has improved, and his color is much better!! He just started preschool, and is loving it!!!"

Every time that I get an email to photograph one of these little heroes from Inspiration through Art, I feel so blessed and Miss Lillian is not exception. The love and support that I see through the families eyes is so inspiring and the spirit that I see through the heroes eyes is absolutely beautiful! These people that you are about to meet are truly my heroes. Without further delay, please meet Lillian and her family, and read more about her story below.

Her story: "Our daughter Lillian was diagnosed with Biliary Atresia 12-10-10. My daughter was born 10-14-10, shortly after birth we realized something wasn't right. After some tests and a liver biopsy we were informed she had Biliary Atresia, a rare liver disease affecting the bile ducks. She had surgery the next morning to try and correct the problem. Sadly it didn't work and Lillian was referred over to transplant 2 months later. She was placed on the transplant list in April and we received the call on July 28th. Lillian had her transplant on July 29th and had quite a recovery. While in recovery we discovered she had a perforated bowel and had to have another surgery to fix that issue. She then was having trouble breathing and was diagnosed with reactive airway disease. Lillian spent 22 days in the PICU and 27 total days in the hospital. Since she has been doing fabulous!"

I recently had a session with a family that I met through Inspiration through Art. I am so amazed when I meet families through this organization. To watch this littlest hero's spirt and heart is amazing in it self, but then to watch the family in action, and see their love shine through, absolutely takes my breath away.

Her story: "Mira was born on Jan 27th 2009. She is a bright little 2 1/2 year old, she loves to play at the park, carry her bunny and green blankie around, and adores her 6 year-old sister, Rayne. She has overcome many things in her 2 years and she has one more heart surgery to come. She is currently at a hemi-fontan (heart operation stage) but has been open and closed 6 times! She was on the heart transplant list for 5 months but was able to come off on her own, with much improvement. She just learned to walk the day after her 25 month birthday, and is learning to like food. She has the energy of any other two year old (if not more), and does it all with half a heart and a smile on her face! She is the bravest, strongest little person."

One of my favorite things that her mom said about this girl, was that she has the "honor of being her mommy!"

We are a week away from my sister's due date and I can hardly wait. We have speculated at different times that she will have another girl or a boy, depending on our mood. Regardless, I can not wait to hold the sweet newborn!! Anyways, we met up at her new house to take some pics of the baby's soon to be home. My sister is absolutely beautiful and I am quite certain my niece can't get any cuter!! Here are some of my favs (it was obviously hard to narrow them down):

Wow - check out the change in the weather! All of sudden a couple storms blow through town and the heat goes away. We also have really green grass and lush trees and pleasant temps. Thank you, Mother Nature! As a side note, I am one of those that LOVE the heat, but for photo shoots, it is nicer if the temps are a little cooler. :)

I recently had a session with a family that I met through Inspiration through Art. This family and this little boy touched my heart in so many ways. I was so impressed by this little guy's strength and spirit and was in awe of this mother's and family's strength to support him in every way that they can. This little hero that you are about to meet, inspired me in so many ways.

His story: William was born on July 21, 2009 at 9:52pm. Mom wasn't feeling as much fetal movement as normal, so they called the doctor and she sent them to the hospital. They did an emergency c-section and delivered a 3lb. 13oz., 16 inch long baby boy who was in respiratory distress. They had no clue the sadness they would feel when they had to leave the hospital without their baby, the sadness that comes with seeing their baby hooked up to tubes and wires, the sadness one feels not being able to hold their baby because he's so sick that the stimulation from his own parents touch does more harm than that good. They had no clue that for the first week they would only be able to enter their child's hospital room wearing gowns and gloves and how well versed they would become in all of the medical terminology that you hear in the NICU and that medical terminology would become their life. During their 4 weeks in the NICU they were told that William has an intraventricular hemorrhage and also periventricular leukomalacia, both are fancy words for damage to their baby's brain.

William was diagnosed with cerebral palsy when he was a year old. He has cortical visual impairment, so he is now legally blind. This month, William received a g-tube to help him eat, as he is unable to eat enough to gain weight which makes him failure to thrive.

On a positive note, William is happy. H-A-P-P-Y! He doesn't know that he is different, he enjoys doing therapy 5 days a week and loves his family. Those are things that they know are most important in his life.

Seriously, this family is awesome!

William is supported and encouraged in every step of his journey thanks to these amazing parents.

Most of all he is loved.

His two sisters provide him with a lot of laughter.

They love him so much!

William, I am so happy to have had the chance to photograph you. You are one awesome little guy.

Your smile and those beautiful eyes, brighten everything!

My sister is pregnant with baby #2 and I can hardly wait! I took a few shots of her the other night of her and her little bump. She is beautiful!!

My sweet niece joined us for a few shots. I am super excited to find out if big sis will get a brother or sister. She is going to love being the older chic!

Btw, this won't be the last time that you see my prego sister on the blog....I love maternity shoots and can't wait to do more of them!!

After we got some images of the kids at the Arb here, we decided to try out the family session at the Botanical Gardens. The Gardens are beautiful right now and it was the perfect location for this family. So many cool things for the kids to look at and so many options for family portraits. Here are some of my favs:

I love taking pictures of relationships, whether they be father-daughter, father-son, mother-daughter or mother-son. I just love the bond!

There is nothing like a parent-child bond! It is truly the best!

The peonies are in full bloom right now and unfortunately, are probably on their way out. However, we made it to the beautiful peonies garden in the Arboretum just in time with this shoot. The peonies added a little beauty to this already super cool brother and gorgeous sister.

After I have given myself 24+ hours to reflect on the workshop, I am so excited about all that I learned and am so eager to apply it to my business and photography. Do I think that my photography will change that much? No. But do I think it will be enhanced? Absolutely. I truly believe that my photography journey is continual and each new thing I learn, makes me that much better. With it being so cold outside, I have been thinking of inside places to have photo shoots. One of the places that came to mind was the Ann Arbor Public Library. It is such a great place for kids: tons of books for all ages, a huge fish tank, puzzles, etc. I asked my sister if I could take my sweet niece to the library and just capture the moment. Thankfully she agreed. :) Here is a little peak into our date day:

Wow! I can hardly believe that life moves this fast!! Happy 2011!! It seems like I was just saying happy 2010. :) Anyway, it has been a while since I blogged but life has been super busy, all fun stuff, but busy.

Firstly, I want to say THANK YOU to all my 2010 clients. It has been an awesome first year back in the States!! I had no idea what to expect but I can tell you that I had a blast this year on every single shoot. You were awesome and I hope to see you back in 2011.

Secondly, thank you to all my fellow photogs that helped me out this year. It is absolutely wonderful that I have met a fantastic group of photogs that are willing to share their knowledge. Merci beau-coup.

Now that we are through the holidays and life continues to be busy as a mom of 3, I have one more personal thing going on. I am super excited about it: I am going to be in a play, "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying". Hehehehehe, I really find it hard to contain my excitement. Check out Burns Park Players for show times and how to get your ticket.

Lastly, due to my busier than normal personal life, please excuse the lack of posts this month. My mommy world and my new found acting world (lol) is taking a lot of time. If you would like to schedule a photo shoot during January and February, I have limited spots open. Please email me soon.

We went on vacation last week in the Keewenaw Peninsula in a little paradise town called Rabbit Bay on Lake Superior. It is seriously one of my favorite places in the world! It is absolutely beautiful. My grandparents have a cottage on the lake, so it is one big beach vacation surrounded by family. I love it!!

I met this family earlier this week. They are from the States and traveled to Paris for the week. We met up at a garden near the Eiffel Tour and had some fun!

You can't come to Paris and not stop at a cafe to people watch or in this family's case have lots of laughs and car watch.

I knew I was going to have a lot of fun at this photo shoot when I showed up and the entire family was jammin' to tunes! Seriously, this family rocked! We started the shoot at their home.

Secondly, our first shoot was cut short due to the rain, so we met up last week just days before the delivery was scheduled. Here are a few of my favs!!

We met at Jardin de Luxembourg and my gosh, I forgot how beautiful it is! Mrs. 'A' fit right in!!

I can hardly wait to see Big Brother 'L' with his little sister!!

I know he is going to be fantastic!!

This family is very lucky that they will have Grandma to help!

I had the awesome pleasure of hanging out with this family last weekend. We had a blast! With the warm weather that we are having, Paris is filled with energy and is absolutely beautiful; this was perfect for the backdrop for this family.

Lately, families have been asking for a little love shoot at the end of our session. I must tell you that I am really starting to love this part of the session too! I have a ton of fun shooting kids and babies, but I love to see the love between the parents!

One of our goals for the day was to get a formal pose in front of Eiffel and another goal was to just have fun! Here are a few of my favorite "fun" shots. Could these twins be any cuter?!!

After our visit with Eiffel, we headed to a nearby museum and played in the courtyard.
